Frequently Asked Questions
HOMOGENIZERS
What is a homogenizer and how does it work?
A homogenizer is a laboratory or industrial device that evenly distributes particles in a liquid and reduces them to a uniform size. Kinematica homogenizers use rotor-stator technology, where a rotating tool (rotor) operates within a stationary housing (stator). The resulting shear forces, turbulence, and cavitation reduce particles to micrometer or nanometer size. This enables stable emulsions, suspensions, and dispersions for pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and chemical applications.
Which homogenizer is right for my laboratory?
The choice of the right homogenizer depends on four factors: (1) Sample volume – for 0.1-500 ml we recommend the Polytron PT 1200 E, for 0.1-10,000 ml the Polytron PT 3100 D; (2) Viscosity – low-viscosity samples require standard dispersing tools, high-viscosity require special generators; (3) Target particle size – for nanoparticles we recommend high-performance models with up to 30,000 RPM; (4) Application area – R&D, quality control, or production. Our application engineers provide free consultation for optimal configuration.
What is the difference between a homogenizer and a disperser?
The terms are often used synonymously, but there are subtle differences: A homogenizer aims to make a mixture completely uniform (particle size and distribution), while a disperser is specifically optimized for distributing solids in liquids (e.g., powder in solutions). Kinematica Polytron devices fulfill both functions – they homogenize emulsions and disperse powders using the same rotor-stator principle. The choice of dispersing tool (generator) determines the specific application.
Which industries are Kinematica homogenizers suitable for?
Kinematica homogenizers are used in the following industries: (1) Pharmaceutical industry – active ingredient suspensions, vaccine development, liposomes; (2) Cosmetics – creams, lotions, makeup emulsions; (3) Food industry – sauces, dressings, vegan milk alternatives, ice cream; (4) Chemistry – nanoparticles, polymer dispersions, paints; (5) Biotechnology – cell lysis, protein extraction, DNA/RNA preparation; (6) Environmental analysis – soil and water samples. All devices are manufactured in Switzerland and meet GMP standards.
How does Kinematica's rotor-stator technology work?
Rotor-stator technology is based on a rotating tool (rotor) that spins at high speed (500-30,000 RPM) within a stationary housing (stator). The product is drawn through the stator openings and passes through three process zones: (1) Suction zone – the medium is drawn into the gap between rotor and stator; (2) Shear zone – intense mechanical shear forces break down particles; (3) Discharge zone – the homogenized product is pushed radially outward. This process produces precise particle sizes below 1 micrometer with narrow distribution.
Can I scale from laboratory to production scale?
Yes, Kinematica offers seamless scalability from laboratory to production. The process parameters (speed, time, temperature) remain identical – only the volume changes. Example: A process developed with Polytron PT 1300 D (laboratory, 100 ml) can be transferred 1:1 to a Megatron MT 3000 (production, 10,000 liters/hour). This guarantees reproducible results and reduces development time. Our application engineers support you with scale-up consultation.
Are Kinematica homogenizers GMP-compliant?
Yes, all Kinematica homogenizers are designed for use in regulated environments. They comply with: (1) GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) for pharmaceuticals and cosmetics; (2) FDA 21 CFR Part 11 for electronic records; (3) EHEDG guidelines for hygienic design; (4) 3-A Sanitary Standards for dairy applications; (5) Swiss food safety regulations (BLV/OFSP). Product-contact parts are made of 316L stainless steel and PTFE. The digital PC software enables complete documentation of all process parameters.
SHOPPING INFORMATION
Delivery charges for orders from the Online Shop?
The delivery costs and risks are borne by the buyer. The supplier delivers the goods "on costs and risk to be borne by the Buyer"
How long will delivery take?
The delivery period is based on the conditions at the time of placing the purchase order and may vary. The supplier reserves the right to revise the delivery date in case of unforeseen circumstances at their or their sub-suppliers’ facilities, if necessary information is not provided in time, or if payment terms are not met. Delays do not give the buyer the right to cancel the contract.
What exactly happens after ordering?
Upon receipt of your purchase order, the supplier processes it and confirms the scope of delivery as per the order confirmation. You automatically accept the delivery and payment terms. Partial shipments are allowed. You should inspect the goods within 10 working days after delivery; otherwise, the delivery is considered accepted.
Do I receive an invoice for my order?
Yes, you will receive an invoice for your order. Payment terms are based on the date of issue of the invoice at the supplier’s location
PAYMENT INFORMATION
When the order payment is taken of my bank account?
For contract values up to CHF 10,000, payment must be made net within 30 days from the date of invoice. For higher values, partial payments are required: 1/3 within 10 days of order confirmation, 1/3 within 10 days of the supplier’s advice of goods readiness, and the final 1/3 within 30 days net from the invoice date. The charge on your bank account depends on when you make the transfer according to these terms
What is wishlist?
The General Sales Terms do not specifically mention a "wishlist." In e-commerce, a wishlist is a feature that allows you to save products you are interested in for future purchase or sharing.
What should I do if I receive a damaged or wrong product?
You must inspect the goods within 10 working days after delivery. If you find damage or errors, you must notify the supplier within this period. If the damage is due to poor quality, material or design defects, the supplier is obliged to repair or replace the affected parts under warranty. Damage caused by misuse, wear and tear, or improper handling is not covered.
Can I change or cancel my order?
Changes or returns of standard goods are not accepted without prior agreement. Customized goods are completely excluded from change or return. If a change or return is accepted, all resulting costs (inspection, cleaning, restoration) are charged to the buyer. To request a change or cancellation, contact customer service as soon as possible.
What is "package tracking" in my orders?
The General Sales Terms do not specifically mention "package tracking." In e-commerce, package tracking is a service that allows you to monitor the status and location of your order during shipment. You can usually find tracking information in your shipping confirmation email or order history.
